I do agree, on the principal that is that the devs shouldn't be stressed
unnecessarily.
They are after all 1 or 2 man bands and should be cut some slack.
Now saying that, over the years there have been some developers that
will use that to the advantage.
James wasn
't the first he won't be the last attacks excluded.
You make a release date, and you release something or maybe you don't.
Your software is so buggy its almost unplayable but you don't fix it at
any rate.
You say you will do something, people buy your stuff and you delay
things for ages and ages.
You come back, you go away, you come back again.
You decide to just forget to communicate that you have issues and
suddenly forget about your users.
What was the worse thing about james wasn't that he didn't release on
time, we could forgive him in the short term for that even medium term.
He didn't respond to preorders on time we can also forgive him for that.
He had issues, everyone does.
It is the fact that he simply didn't even bother to communicate with his
users at all.
He simply went away.
And he wandered why everyone got mad with him.
Now if it wasn't for phil v we would be more mad, as it was, we gave him
ample time because mr pcs games told us what was going on to some extent.
However, he had taken our money, and he was not talking.
People wandered, then some got convinced he went away.
Ofcause after we heard that some people outside went at him we wanted to
set the zombies on em ofcause or at least I think some of us did.
This was again fine.
If then james had simply come back explained himself and told us he was
being attacked we would have taken them down to chinatown.
Instead he unloaded 1000 nukes on us.
That was enough to push us over.
People had payed phill v made a humorous thing on it all but the reality
was that james had not only gone but he had taken our cash and run off
with it.
If we were real sighted gamers there would have been a law suit I am sure.
As it were there were people contacting paypal/banks etc to get their
charges reversed.
I am not sure if some were refunded or not.
Even then after phill v had explained what he was told we gave james a
little room but with no responce from him he sealed his own doom.
Sadly, because of others like him, bavisoft is one that just up and left
and a few more, we are short with developers, we bitch and moan when
things don't come out on time, we are nervous when a new dev releases
something.
To top it off, the gaming community has had its share of small failed,
mangled or other projects.
And thats only got worse with bgt and other engines being around.
The fact there are more developers well.
Ofcause its mostly bluster now.
A lot of things put pay to that.
bsc shut down, vipgameszone just died.
Pcs is not talking same with draconis, and with the death of tom ward
usagames is no more.
Then jim k died and bar l-works thats the end of the main origional core.
Gma does come on and off but they are basically silent now to.
As it stands, l-works isn't that active anymore and while it releases
games, liam mainly releases youtube playthroughs and streams for cash
and does a bloody good job at doing so to.
The only developers that really exist bar the mass of freelancers now
days and l-works ofcause are the japanese.
I am not sure exactly how they started and how they were able to advance
so fast and far but they beat the us devs hands down and just not sure how.
I mean we have kids releasing basically professional rpgs and series of
those.
We may have hacked our first computer at 12-13 or done stupid things,
these guys were basically ais doing games and really good ones at that.
They are probably the only reason we are not done and dusted.
The other thing is that audyssey magazine after mike feir pulled out and
with a lot being mirrored on the audiogames forum is basically dead now.
If it wasn't for audiogames.net we would be dead.
