Okay, I found something out and this should make life easier for us gem collectors. You can get gems by getting video rewards. Some of these video rewards are silent. I found trying to move anywhere on the screen and double tapping just got me into trouble. I also found when a silent video comes on if I wait 45 seconds and simply double tap the screen without attempting to move around on the screen The video ends and I get the gems.
