Hi, As stated you need a barracks to make any soldiers, or upgrade any, into knights or bowman. Once those items are delivered to the barracks, go ahead and make one of your players into a soldier. Once they show up there, even if their attacking goblins, you can upgrade them. Select them from your list of available soldiers and press shift + U. This will bring up a list of item you can use to upgrade them. Select the desired equipment and they will begin the process of training. After time they become the selected knight or bowman. As for food. Make a few veg and wheat farms. One of each to start should suffice for a while. Plus have enough hunters out there to make enough food for your people. About 3 hunters/butchers should be sufficient also. I usually do not select a permanent cook. I will just reassign a peasant to become a cook when I get a notification that some one is starving. Note the tavern has I think the highest priority. So as you use up food in the tavern it will be stocked very quickly. Just save often. Something goes wrong just reload. This game has a bit of a learning curve, but is easy to get a grip on. If your soldiers are busy, it's possible they're just immediately going out to battle and you don't have enough time to train them.
