Hi, excavating will never get you openings to lower levels in that way. The down exit you need for the mossy tunnel area is as follows roughly: >From the thieves guild on the surface, go down through the trapdoor, then west twice to enter the tunnels. Go north until you get to a crossroads, think it's 4 or 5 north. go west from the crossroads and look for a south exit. The 'down' exit is there. You then just need to type 'open moss' I think it is and bingo. I think there's also another door down there, but again 'open moss' should work.
