I accept your challenge. I've played James's demo and defeated the boss. I've been blind all my life. The demo does a superb job of demonstrating the fundamentals of using the mouse to aim and turn while using the keyboard to walk forward and backward. I'm not exactly a fan of the heavy metal music he chose for the action indicator, but I can aim at and shoot zombies just fine. I can also collect ammunition. It doesn't take a lot of imagination to see where this demo might lead in hands as capable as James North's. The demo demonstrates the basics of a system which will doubtless be refined into something truly excellent. You asked where the good old days went. The short answer to that is that it depends on the community as a whole. Cash is a chronic problem in the blind community that doesn't look like it's going away any time soon. Most of us don't have a lot of it to spare. What we can give freely is good will and a degree of patience. I'm the first to admit that James is taking an extremely long time releasing Monty after saying that it was ready. However, there were a lot of circumstances not generally known that makes this delay very understandable. Not the least of which is the certainty of piracy if products aren't properly protected. I also have some sense of what he's added onto the game and it's now a far better game than you would have gotten a year ago. Has he made mistakes? Absolutely particularly in the area of communications. However, his intentions are rock-solid and haven't wavered with Monty or Max as I believe this demo illustrates. In the new year, I still have high hopes of bringing the idea of an accessible games virtual convention to reality. This community is in need of fresh voices and new ideas. A highly publicised event drawing in parents and educators as well as gamers is I think the next step in helping us out of the dry spell we've experienced over the past while.
