That's correct.  The Atari 5200 was mostly just a repackaged Atari 400/800
home computer and the Atari 7800 was derived with it and maintained backward
compatibility with the Atari 2600 cartridges (this is why it was called the
Atari 7800 because 5200 plus 2600 equals 7800).  The 2600 always had crappy
graphics and sound.

That's interesting. I must have missed the original Montezuma's Revenge 
for the Atari when back in the day when I was the Atari king. grin.
It is pretty much true that Atari repackaged there computers with 
different controllers, but if memory serves me the 7800 games had 
slightly better color and graphics over the 2600. I know some of the 
early 2600 games like demon attack, combat, etc had terrible color and 
graphics. All the games I had purchased for the 7800 were in color, and 
the graphics were better.
Anyway, I think as far as games goes most of the original game ideas 
have been used at least once. Allot of games I find the on net are 
clones, or modified rehashes of some other title.
