Hi Folks,
A sighted friend made us a Braille Rubik's Cube for Christmas.
He used round head carpet tacks nailed into a standard cube.
Unfortunately he also used the dot pattern he found on a Braille dice so put
one dot in the center of each of the first side's 9 blocks.
And put six dots in the sixth side.
I thanked him for doing it but suggested a different pattern would be
better.
This is because his two and three felt the same except for the center dot.
It was also harder for me to feel the difference between the five and six
than that of the others.

Here are some of my suggestions:
 1. no marks on the first side.
2. one dot centered on the second side.
3. three dots in a diagonal on the third side.
4. four dots in a wide set square pattern on the forth side.
5. four dots in a narrow set diamond pattern on the fifth side.
6. five dots in an X pattern on the sixth side.
This way he would use less carpet tacks and each pattern would have more of
a distinct outside shape.

Other suggestions are to use a heavy metal staple as a bar or a round washer
as a ring.
Or to use a small round carpet tack for side two and then a large square
tack for side three.

Has anyone worked out the best patterns for a blind person to feel?
Phil
