Hi everyone, I came across a fun facts site the other day, and like a dummy, lost the URL. I don't mean to say that FigureInTheCloak (sorry, I forgot your name. sorry!) is wrong, just this email made me think of it. Everyone knows that over the last week this list has had more then its faire share of misunderstandings.
Something I thought that was interesting (being a huge star trek fanatic,) kerk or anyone for that madder never said "Beam me up Scottie". What the guy you heard on TV was talking about was probably astral travel, or the practice of projecting one's etherial body out of the physical body in order to travel to places, times, and dimensions not possible with the physical body. The physical body does not come with the etherial body, it stays where it is, and others cannot see the astral traveler unless they're doing it too at the same time. It should also be said that this practice has not been "scientifically" proven to be real. That is to say that it has not been proven that people can actually do this. But many Pagans, Wiccans and practicianers of other "New Age" faiths practice this exercise as a method of spiritual exploration. I think that the term and concept of teleporting, where the physical body is instantly transported from one place to another, originated in science fiction, specifically Star Trek I think. You might have heard the phrase "Beam me up Scottie"?
