USA Raceway Opening Day

The day will be here.
Years in the making and it will be here.
It will be beautiful.
It will be a crash helmet and
a force feedback steering wheel,
it will be screeching tires and sweaty palms,
it will be the culmination of developer stress
and customer demands,
in a small room with surround speakers,
a comfortable chair,
smoke in the air,
a clutched joystick, or keyboard, laughter, smiles . . .
But will it be USA Raceway?

-asked the blind man in the subway station handing out newspapers before
going home to a turned off computer.
-asked the lawyer with the Italian shoes
who watched the game go through three divorces,
-asked the teenage boy going to school
with a frown on his face and an empty wallet.

They start each day with dreams, plans, and hopes Raceway will finally see
the light of day at its new home.

When USA Raceway is finished,
There will be many happy sleepy players in the mornings
and plenty of tired, slumped evenings playing after work.
It will be no more nights out but nights in,
Hours of playing until dawn,
but will it be USA Raceway?

-asked the fifteen year old girl sleeping on a cot
dreaming of the day she will be able to drive.

On USA Raceway Opening Day,
There will be hundreds of downloads,
crickets singing a lullaby of creation.
There will be nights of thunder and roaring,
of rattled windows and revving engines.
There will be nights of trial and error, perfecting your skills,
Others beating your best lap times,
that snuck in while you weren't looking.
There will be nights of passion beating another to a photo finish,
intensifying the joy of the game,
and there will be nights when you've let the sun go down
on your anger, after crashing at high speeds in the championship race,
But, the sun rises every morning,
and when you rise,
you will ask the question,
because that man by the guide dog
with no family and earning $5.15 an hour,
and that accessibility tech consultant on 9th avenue, and her boss, and her
boyfriend,
need to know, if it will be USA Raceway!

And we, the blind gaming multitudes,
with silent, awkward voices,
ask the same question.
We who surround you now
and have maybe not taken those game preordering steps
and maybe not found that perfect racing game at someone else's company.
USA Games Entertainment, You are our hope.
There will be questions on thousands of lips,
trembling to the echoes of, "will it be USA Raceway?"

-asked by the masses with black and blue hearts and unfelt days,
demanding, "do you have the so-called guts it takes
to finish the game?
to show us realistic game physics?
to show us force feedback?"
And USA Games Entertainment will say, "I do."
