Sudoku is more a puzzle than a game. It's a grid of nine by nine squares or
cells which need to be filled in with numbers usually but it can be other
things such as letters.

The most commonly used version of the puzzle grid contains 9 horizontal
rows of 9 cells each and 9 vertical columns of 9 cells each. This totals 81
cells and these 81 cells are also divided into 9 three by three blocks or
regions.

The object of the puzzle is to get all the numbers from one to nine in each
of the rows, columns and blocks so that each number appears once, and only
once, in each of the rows, columns, and blocks. There are some numbers
already filled in and these are called the given and cannot be changed. You
have to determine which of the nine numbers fits into each of the remaining
cell so that it is not duplicated in the row, column or block in which the
cell resides.

This is a very popular puzzle among the sighted community and is becoming
popular among the visually impaired as well. Currently a version can be had
from Draconis Entertainment for $19.95. There's also a free version at
audiogames.net. Another version is being worked on by Ian Humphrey from
Spoonbill. This looks like it will be a very good version that can be played
by both visually impaired and sighted since the grid is shown on the screen.
Ian's version will also be free as are all his games for the visually
impaired.

Hope this helps.
