Dear Marco:
I have a long-term friend who lives in Mesa. Even though he was raised
a hillbilly, here in East Tennessee, he now claims to enjoy the 100 plus
plus temperatures that Arizona provides for most of the year. His doctors
sent him to Arizona in the seventies to get away from grass pollens, so
Motorola moved him to their Phoenix office. He does not own a lawn mower,
and likes it that way. His piece of desert grows some of those large cactus
and other native plants, and he has a thriving wildlife population, but no
grass. He claims to enjoy the lack of work and noise associated with lawn
care.
If you will conserve water and quit using an irrigation system on your
lawn, nature will resolve the matter for you, and you will be at one with
nature. You need to start soon, as my friend's cactus is estimated to be
400 years old, so you can see that getting an early start has its rewards.
