Hi Jim, thanks for your effort. Appreciate it.

I had seen and visited these sites, but I seem to be having trouble
explaining exactly what I am looking for.

The first of the splitters on these sites are made to use with small
wood or wood that has already been split and actually seems to be
made to make kindling.

The second really isn't described at all. I expect the sites contain
pictures that show more of the product, but Ias I explained earlier,
I hate to buy something based solely on descriptions telling how well
something works but not how it works.

I burn wood in a boiler. It is my primary heat sorce from
Thanksgiving until my woodpile is gone, April 7th last year. My
boiler will take a 11 by 24 inch stick, nicely. This means that the
second splitter would only be helpful to me for sticks between 11 and
12 inches.

I buy 6 cords of wood a year, cut , split, and delivered. But, I
also take down a few trees that need to be thinned out each year. I
only took down 3 trees this year. but they were 18 to 23 inches in
diameter on the stump. They make a nice little addition to my
purchased supply.

I have always used a splitting maul to split my wood. I still do,
but it is a hassel now that I am a totals, and the work is getting to
be just a bit more "work" as I get on toward 70. I split 3 peices
today using 3 wedges and a 6 pound forge hammer, and I guess I can
continue to do that. But as I split these butt chunks, I think about
better ways.

Again, thanks for thinking about this.

Joe
