I myself don't have a pond but do know a dozen or more people that do have. Some are older and some have been built within the last 5 years or so.
I also know a couple of contractors that have installed these ponds. Here in NW Pennsylvania, we have a lot of clay in the soil. The contractors I mentioned, dig out the pond and seperate the clay (as much as they can) from the shale and rocks. They then use the clay to line the pond and breast-works of the pond if applicable. Most of the ponds I know of work as they are suppose to, however, just last week I was talking to a guy that had a pond built 3 years ago and it worked up untill this year. Now the breast-works which is made of earth, has a hole in it the size of a basketball and down about four feet from the overflow and his pond is leaking. I myself think that the contractor that built his pond used larger rocks to build the breast-works and the clay was too skimpy in the area where the leak developed. I would advise you to check with others in your area to see how their ponds are constructed. You need to know what kind of soil you have. Also you might want to check with contractors that install septic systems to see how your location perks. ----- Original Message ----- From: Lee A. I'm thinking something like you would line with a leftover pool liner or something. If you have ideas or experience let me know. this is a long range project for maybe next summer. actually I would like to convert my current 33 foot round pool to a fish and frog pond but others in my family do not share the same ideas. also wondering if you do have a pond small or large do you stock that pond for harvesting. one final question. is there another list where these things are discussed.? thanks.Lee -- If computers take over (which seems to be their natural tendency), it will serve us right. -- Alistair Cooke [Non-text portions of this message have been removed] To listen to the show archives go to link http://acbradio.org/handyman.html or ftp://ftp.acbradio.org/acbradio-archives/handyman/ The Pod Cast address for the Blind Handy Man Show is. http://www.acbradio.org/news/xml/podcast.php?pgm=saturday The Pod Cast address for the Cooking In The Dark Show is. http://www.gcast.com/u/cookingindark/main.xml Visit The New Blind Handy Man Files Page To Review Contributions From Various List Members At The Following Address: http://www.jaws-users.com/handyman/ Visit the new archives page at the following address http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/ For a complete list of email commands pertaining to the Blind Handy Man list just send a blank message to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Yahoo!
