Max, if you ever did any welding, you would know that a welding hood has a 
flip window that allows you to position the material and welding rod in 
position, you nod your head and the flip window will go shut, and you then 
weld.
The material gets so hot you could fry an egg on it, so you certainly 
couldn't use your hands to feel how your weld is doing.
