Actually the ones I have just tell you if it is fire or carbon monoxide which have set off the alarm. As we have two official languages it makes sure you die to the sound of both official languages. The voice though loud is of poor quality due to the emitter. With all three sounding at the same time the row is spectacular. On the other hand, in the night we would never hear the basement alarm.
The ones onto which you record your own message are claimed to be more effective for kids presumably because they are reassured by the sound of a parental voice blaring only approximately comprehensible instructions.
