When switching from the injection system to a carb, you may have to look for a cam that will fit an older year of your engine. Manufactures are making cams that perform better with computer controlled engines, so it won't perform as well if you put a carb on it. Without looking at actual cam specs, off the top of my head, I think it is the lobe separation angle that is the biggest difference between computer controlled, and carb engines. While in replacing the cam, you should replace the timing set as well. A double roller would be the best, and they ain't all that expensive. Michael

I would like to build it up and put it in my s10 I don't really want to go to extreems. I am not looking to over size the cilenders because of the extra cost of having them board out and the cost of new pistons and rings. A couple of things I am thinking about are going to a an Edel brock intake and switching to a carborator. Probably a quadrojet because unlike the Holly once it is set up it is pretty low maintanence. other thing I am thinking is an over sized cam. What all else needs to be changed when you put in an over sized cam, if any thing. . what about headers? Will they give me any thing more than a lighter wallet? What else have i overlooked?
