Hi All I mentioned some time ago I was going to give my next door neighbour a hand to remove the 3x2 hardwood rails and replace them with galvanised channel. My Son gave us a hand and with the three of us going at it we knocked it over quicker than I thought. Well we started about 7am and finished about 4pm, we worked all day and I am pleased to say the fence looks much better. The hardest part was removing the wood rails because I used helical spiralled nails to nail on the galvanised sheets called clip lock when I built it 30 years ago. The bolts we could not unscrew I cut them off with bolt cutters. We tex screwed the rails straight onto the galvanised pipe posts and after the rails were screwed on I screwed a roof screw through from the rail side so we could use a string line to line up the screws when screwing on the sheets it worked great. I set my tex screw gun so the clutch slipped when the screw was just screwed home without stripping and this made life easier. There was 320 feet of rails to replace so it was a big day. I am sore all over with a few bits of skin off my arms but my wife made me some shin pads which protected my legs for I generally bump them and have skin off everywhere but they protected them just great. I had to cut a lot of plants and small trees down so we could get access along the gardens fence to screw home the fencing. I am having a cold one, OH what a feeling.
