Happy new year Victor, I have doors similar to those you've described. I've
taken them down, and discovered that the edges of the wheels had accumulated
that hardened goop that accumulates in showers. I cleaned them up with
detergent and a scrubby sponge. Make sure you take note of which mounting hole
they came from, or your doors will not set level.

Good luck

Subject: [BlindHandyMan] Greasing the Wheels of Life

Hi All,

I have probably gotten these questions answered in the past, but I'll be damned
if I can find it in the archives or the hundreds of messages I've managed to
keep in the years I've been on the list.

Anyway, my problems are my shower doors.

These are the kind that hang off of a rail at the top of the bathtub enclosure,
and use a rail at the bottom to guide the doors in place.

The bottom portions of the doors do not have wheels, only the top of the doors
where they hang off of a lip that curves under the wheels.

Lately the doors have become juttery, for lack of a better term. In layman's
terms, they don't slide smoothly across the rail as they once did. Now they
travel across the rail in a halting motion, as if the wheels were jamming.

If I didn't know any better, I'd swear the wheels had gotten deformed or
something and were no longer round.

I don't think this has happened, but I really haven't had the time to go in
there and mess around with the doors yet.

First question is can I grease these little monkeys?

The next question is what should I use to grease said monkeys. Should I use
WD40, silicone spray, or a powder grease I've heard mentioned on the list
before?

I just remember Phil's horror story of using WD40 on his patio sliding doors
and how bad they got in stead of getting better. Oops, I'm sorry, I almost
forgot, they started off alright after he lubed them, but steadily got worse as
time progressed...Well, I just don't want these happening to my shower doors.
They can be relatively expensive to replace, and I don't want to have to do
that..

The last question I have is if the wheels can't return to their normal running
ability, can they be replaced?

Like I said, I haven't gone into the wells to feel around in there, so I
thought I'd ask the experts first and save me the trouble.

I'm really lazy that way, or, as my ex-psychologist/therapist used to say,
you're not lazy, you're just low on energy...Yeah right, who was she trying to
kid...smile.

Anyway, thanks for the help.
