I think I read about SharkBite fittings on here. I have read up on them since. They are a fitting that you push the pipe end into and it locks in place. You can remove the pipe from the fitting with a special tool without damaging the pipe or fitting and then reuse both. The fitting has two stages, a gasket that does the sealing, and a lock that holds the pipe in place. They can be used for copper, PVC, and PEX, but you have to use a special collar for the PEX since it is so flexible.
