We talked about baseboard heating, it will save some room, but it would be behind the couch and probably less affective. The cast iron is behind the couch as well, but it stands up so high that I don't think we are losing as much as if it were just a small baseboard along the floor.
The radiant heat is a wonderfully interesting idea, but could be a pain in the ass to install, even with PEX, and they say that a real wood floor isn't the best thing to have above radiant heat.
