OK that settles it.
I was thinking about maybe doing this project but wasn't absolutely set on
weather I would do it or not. But looks like the gauntlet has been thrown
down.
I don't have anywhere inside out of the cold to do this so it will not
really get started until. It is comfortable enough to do it out side. Now my
first order of business is to find a shell to plant this motor into.
I think I will stick to the closest possible match. Since it is coming out
of a GMC Jimmy I might settle on either a Chevy s10 or better yet if I can
find a GMC s15 pickup. The Chevy s10's are much more abundant up here than
the GMC s15.
Tomorrow my wife and I are going to look at an s15 for $500.00 It has a 2.5
4 cylinder and I would rather have the 4.3 in it but if that little 2.5 runs
good I will leave well enough alone and look for some thing else.
I will keep you all posted.
The parts of the project that I solicit help on I will not be ashamed to
fess up to.
Stay tuned.

This sounds like a great discussion for the list. I think it would be most
interesting. Keep us posted on the progress of this project. Don

Robert,

Hmmmm, What will a 4.3 GM v6 fit?
My experience with that particular drive package is
extremely limited. The best answer I can give you is check
with one of your local dismantlers and have them look it up
in there interchange software. My El Camino started it's
life with the 2.8 version of that same motor but by the time
it came to me there was a huge hole in the side of the block
where #3 piston had attempted an escape and the entire
assembly including the trans ended up in the scrap trailer.
No matter what direction you choose here are some things to
consider.

1. Make sure that the motor runs well before you install it.
This will save you a lot of grief and time on the back end
of your project.
2. Going from truck to SUV or passenger car it may be
necessary to change external components such as oil-pans
exhaust manifolds, alternator, power steering and air
conditioning mount brackets. You may also end up making or
modifying motor mounts.
3. We haven't even began to discuss computer controls,
linkages or cooling system mods.
This list can serve as a pretty good resource. Remember this
is where I learned the easy way to cut a 14-inch diameter
whole in my hood and got some really good fiber-glass 101
information.
Keep me posted on your progress.

Regards

Larry Stansifer

Larry congratulations on the finishing of your project. I
like Blind mans bluff because it accents what a blind man
can do rather than the worn out notion of what a blind man
can't do. Since you are entertaining other names here is one
that you may or may not like but how about blind mans gruff.

I have a 1991 gmc Jimmy with a good 4.3 motor that I have
been canablizing and I want to find some thing to put this
motor in just to give me some thing to do that I have not
done before. This will be the first time I have attempted to
swap motors on my own. I am sure I will need a second pair
of hands for some of the project but I want to do the bulk
of it on my own. My question for you is what are my options
for what I can put it in. So far what I am sure I can put it
in with out a lot of changes are. Another Jimmy or a Chevy
s10 or a gmc s15. Are there any cars that I could bolt this
into? Keep in mind that I do not have the expertise to do
any real modifying, more than say changing out the computer
if needed. Any suggestions.

Robert,

Actually, the El Camino turned out better than I hoped. My
little-bitty small block 383-CID stroker motor is making
well north of 440HP and 410FTLB of torque. It's first time
out of the shop it put a brand new factory super-charged
Roush mustang on the trailer. I am putting the finishing
touches on the interior and the bed with hopes of entering
it in a southwestern regional car show in Vegas in two
weeks. They tell me it needs a name. I am kind of partial to
either Blind Man's Bluff, Evil Camino or Hell Camino
however, I am entertaining suggestions. Other than what I
call them when they don't go together right I have never
really named one of my projects.

Regards

Larry Stansifer

Hay Larry
As I recall you were working on putting in some type of
tunnal in the back seat of a car for extra batteries and I
think a nytrace tank or some thing. Wasn't it a camaro? Or
was that the Elcamino? So how did that ever turn out?
