There's two possibilities that come immediately to mind: 1) Would Fireplace Matches help the situation? These are essentially 12 inch kitchen matches with the wooden matchstick. They can be purchased at any hardware store that sells fireplace supplies or possibly -- well, likely -- on the internet.
2) A charcoal lighter (a special lighter, not the fluid) can be bought at any place where you buy charcoal and barbecue supplies.
