Edward, Unfortunately to get into a universal unit as you call them, you are pretty well locked into the professional models from Mac, Matco Snap-on. The good news is that your Son can purchase as many or as few adapters and data cards as he needs. Keep both hands on your Visa card bro these units are not cheep.
