When viewing the face of the receptacle from the front and the round ground 
hole down, the black (hot) wire is on the right and the white (neutral) wire is 
on the left.  There is a difference in the length of the flat slots on the 
front of the receptacle, also.  If the receptacle is still oriented as above, 
the longer slot will be on the left and the shorter slot will be on the right.  
The white (neutral) wire goes to the long slot and the black (hot) wire goes to 
the short slot.
