I don't know how you plant potatoes, but in my childhood memory they were in
rows. I would think a stake every five plants would keep a person in line
since the dead vines would tell aperson where to dig. Me being a cheap miser
would use whatever I had laying around a few wood lathes here , some pieces of
pipe, but re bar seems a little overkill. Well it will last a few decades. If
one really has to purchase something then wood laths or tomato stakes wouild be
my choice. Thhinking out side the box. how about a stake at each end of the
row with a rope or twine between.

  Folks
I know this is not a garden list but the question I have really has more to
do with types of material to use so I figure I have come to the right place.
  Hear it is.
I am getting ready to start my garden and I want to mark each of about 300
potato plants so I can dig them up in the fall.
Question is, what type of sticks, pipes, poles, rods sticks or what ever the
case may be, is the most economical yet durable and practicalfor this
  application.
There is a lot out there to choose from and I know that there is problbly
  not one write answer.
Some one on the garden list suggested rebar. Only trouble is I would
probably need to go buy some type of special hand held power tool to cut
  this crap.
Hmmm actually now that I think about that option it would give me a good
excuse to justify buying a new tool.
But really what do you all think. Robert
