Hey Dan,
Would this hole be cut into the brand new floor you just
finished laying down? If so, I'd listen to your wife, and come
up with a different idea. You might consider fixing the steps
first though. I like the idea of using some plywood and making a
ramp out of the steps, then sliding it right down. I'd even come
down to watch you do that. Of course, I'll stand at the top of
the stairs during the lowering of the pig. If I hear the words,
"catch this", I'm outta there!!

I really like the idea of cutting a whole through the floor and
sliding
the radiator down.
Now getting my wife on-board with that one may be a bit more
difficult
though.
