Robert,

V O M = volt ohm meter.

The next area I would look at would be the throttle
potentiometer control, but there again you will need the
afore mentioned volt ohm meter and that six-pack.

I would probably move cruise control to the bottom of the
list because it gets its primary signal from a rotating
sensor located either on the drive-shaft or live axel.

Larry after re reading your post. I have a couple more
questions / comments. First what is a V O M Is that a
vehicle onboard monitor? Also I am not so sure if how the
system interprets the temp. has much to do with it.
because even with very cold conditions the engine should not
rev so high that one would think it is at risk of blowing
up. Which is how she describes it. And after she gives the
throttle a quick thump it will settle down and behave. One
more thing I just thought about as I am typing. The odometer
and the speedometer do not work and I think she has crues
control she does not use the crues but could it be sending
a signal? And if so can you just unplug them? I admit that I
am kind of grasping at straws with that last one but I
thought it might be worth a mention. Thanks for your help
Robert

Larry Unfortunately as this is not my car and people do not
describe symptoms all that clearly and I don't have enough
experience to really intarigate I mean question them, I
don't have a lot of information to work with. I can tell you
that the car does not over heat and as far as I know it does
not give her any trouble after the car is up to operating
temp. So looks like this one may need to go to the shop. How
did you say that? Not sure I can fix this one with a 6 pack
and a monkey wrench?

Robert,
does the engine warm up normally?
If the Thermostat is working correctly and the engine still
thinks it is cold you may be chasing a mas air flow sensor
or engine temp sensor ghost. Nothing you want to tackle with
a six-pack and a V O M

My friend has a 1991 Plymouth acclaim with a 2.5 and when
she starts it up from cold it will some times rev up on its
own and she has to kick it down. With out hooking it up to a
OBD or some thing is there any thing I could try to do or
look for to try to solve this? I was thinking there may be a
vacuum leak some where, I checked out the vacuum lines that
I could find and they seem to be ok. I also shot the
linckage with some WD 40 and shot some carb cleaner down the
throat of the throttle body. Any thing else I can try for
her before she takes it to the shop. I think a car crusher
would be the proper tool in this case but it is not my car
so that is not my call. Really though it has been a good car
for her all in all. Ists just that it has over 170,000 miles
on it and for that particular car that is really getting up
there. Yes I know some one on this list no doubt is going to
come back and tell me about a Plymouth acclaim with over
250,000 miles on it but that would in my opinion be the
acception rather than the rule.
