A guy did that with a water tower. There is a show on the Home and Garden
channel that is all about interesting places people have built homes, and they
had a segment on it. It sounded like it had turned out very nice.

My husband has a dream of buying a missile silo and living in it. I keep
asking him who is going to clean all that space. he knows how big they are, I
just remember that it is multiple thousands of square footage. all underground.

In my youth I had this fantasy of buying an old water tower and building a
dwelling in the tank at the top of the tower. Nice place for ham radio,
broadcast radio and TV reception. This was long before anyone had thought
  of cable TV.

  Regards.
