A few things that come to mind about pools are city ordinance. Around here you
are supposed to have a fence around the area where your pool is setup.
Sometimes I think your home owner's insurance have issues as well.
Another thing to consider is the amount of trees around the area. Not only to
present problems with leaves, falling branches but the shading on the pool.
Lots of sun is nice but in my experience the sun also adds to your work of
keeping the chemicals balanced.
How level is the yard. I decided one year to surprise my first wife with her
own pool. I went to Words and purchased a 15 foot round pool with medal sides
and posts with a vinyl liner. It said on the box that 2 good men could install
it in a few hours. I took it home and my brother-in-law and I started the
project. We discovered where I intended to set it up had about an 8 inch drop.
We spent the better part of the days digging, scraping, filling and finding
things like railroad ties to level it up. It was a joke after that because
since he wasn't able to help me finish the job and my wife and her friends had
to help me set up the pool that the 2 guys weren't good enough to do it, smile!
We also had the problem of neighbors because I didn't have a good place to
empty the pool or for any run off to run to and the folks behind me objected to
any water from my pool getting in to their flowers and garden. Now, my pool
water tested better than the water from the city and especially was better than
the water they pumped out from a creek behind their home, but they didn't like
the idea of the pool next to them.
When I installed a new patio I had a drain put in so I could drain off the pool
in to my basement floor drain so I didn't have to worry about those people and
then one year I forgot to lower the level of the pool before the freeze and
they got quite a bit of water, boy wer they unhappy.
Depending on your environment, you can have a lot of maintenance, so maybe one
of those temporary ones would be best.
At any rate, enjoy swimming and if you are like most folks, the less yard you
have to maintain the better, so fill your whole yard with the pool.

  Subject: [BlindHandyMan] swimming pools

  Hey everybody,

you guys have been lots of help with my housing questions. I really
appreciate it.

My newest question is about pools. I am not interested in a house with a pool
now as my kids are so little. Perhaps if I just had one and could swim with him
to supervise, but with three there is no way. Anyway, how big a space in the
yard do I need for a pool? I am thinking above ground. I would love something
big enough to really swim laps in, but probably I am going with something
smaller and more reasonable. I know we have several people with pools on the
list, and I will welcome your opinions.

  Jennifer
