The ridge cap is designed to facilitate venting in the attic. I suppose it
may have been installed improperly somehow and that may be contributing to a
problem. I'd ask the guy who's going to do your roof what he thinks about
the ridge cap. And don't be surprised if he tells you he won't know until
he removes the old shingles.
