A few years ago I bought a gadget off Ebay, must have been one of them inverter critters. It had an AC power supply and the adapter to plug it in to a car cigarette lighter. It provided a regular outlet for the tv or computer and had the socket for devices which had the DC adapter. It was great for long trips with bored family members and when I wanted to use my portable air pump without having the car available, I could charge it up in the house and use it anywhere, but woe, it bit the dust. Now I went to the local store which has all that knowledgeable sales staff and was assured by the well-meaning clerk that he had the exact same thing. I am a trusting soul and so I never bothered opening the package, just put it away for the future trip or emergency need. Well, a few weeks ago I happened to remember that I had that gadget and I wanted to air up the kids' bike tires, so dug it out. I ripped/cut open that darn plastic package and sure enough, there was the two outlets, just what I was hoping for, but no, the power supply is totally dependant on some sort of battery or vehicle, as instead of an AC power supply it offers clips or the DC adapter. Now to what I am wondering, thanks to Dan, and since I have almost decided to place my portable generator on my ever increasing wish list, could I purchase one of those Marine deep discharge batteries and maybe have enough portable power to say run a drill or hedge trimmer when I need them? I suppose one has to know all that amps, watts, volts and that will mean getting someone close by with working eyes to tell me the pertinent facts. What do you wise folks think?
