A few years ago I had something simmilar. My fridge wasn't a side by side, but if we blocked the air on the fan in the freezer with packages it happened. I don't know if this would be your problem since you say you have that hole with a sliding door, but that was our problem and if you are like me, can't find the manual for it after all this time.
