Personally I use a wireless keyboard right here. Secondly how about a delayed
action shut down timer kind of thing? I know that such animals are available.

The computer idea sounds pretty good. I do see a couple disadvantages
though.

First, how would I be able to use a remote control to play stuff?

Second, we have the CD changer plugged into our receiver and so it turns off
when the receiver turns off. This is nice because the receiver has a sleep
timer.

Are there good solutions for these using an old computer?

Thanks,
Ralph

In fact I am going to do that some fine day. That way I'll have easy access
to my music collection.

Yep they do. They call them computers. *GRIN* You can connect your PC
wirelessly or wiredly to your stereo and rip your CDs to disk using
whatever codec you wish, MP3, OGG, blah blah blah.
