The lady I am dating knows less about this here Bob Vila
stuff then I do.
You guys do have me thinking about a strait edge type device
that would locate on the end of the plywood as well as the
parting line from which you might be able to take a
center-to-center measurement.
If this is a bravo sierra idea let me know.

Remember one thing, don't make it square, make it fit the
house. I think the same thing might apply to your ledger
board. (LOL) A 24 foot board might present some logistical
challenges. One trick I might try is to place something on
the wall at the point you want the bottom of the ledger to
be. Place this it the center point so the 24 foot board
could rest on it. Now, having done this you could place a 4
foot level on top of the ledger and manipulate it until it
is level then secure the board to the wall.
The only way I know to be sure the uprights are
perpendicular is by the use of a level. It is going to take
more than one person to make this an easy task. I don't
think the brew will be a lot of help on this one. (LOL) To
get the tops all level you will have to check the level of
the floor and calculate how much to cut off each to
compensate for the difference. If all else fails there is
always the good old shim. (LOL) Now, for a chalk line
substitute I use a 1x2. Place a nail or screw at the ends
and put to 1x2 up against these screws/nails. String or wire
is (at least to me) a problem as the string will give and
your line will wander a bit. If all else fails have your
wife mark and set the screws/nails on the plywood that way
you can blame her if they don't hit the stringers. (LOL) Cy,
the Ancient Okie...

Hi guys,

Well here is a couple more pre-build questions.

How do I go about leveling a 24 foot run of ledger board?

What do I substitute for a snapped chock line to locate
centers under the plywood?

What is the most accurate way to make certain that my
support poles are perfectly strait and the tops are level?

I have some experience with a plumb line and it worked out
ok however, I was hoping for something better.
