Thanks again to Ray and his product reviews I seem to have acquired a fine side winder circular saw. I have just returned from a short trip around South-Western Ontario during which I saw Nickelback and Arrowsmith play the park in Sarnia, The Merchant of Venice, Commedy of Errors, To Kill a Mockingbird and Of Mice and Men at the Stratford Festival as well as 12 bands over three evenings at Rock the Park in London. We did some swimming on the shores of Lake Huron at Grand Bend and Sauble Beach among other things.
I did locate a Porter+Cable MAG423 circular saw. I haven't cut anything with it yet but do like the feel of it, the blade release mechanism which does not require a wrench and the depth and bevel control settings. The saw is light, so far my only complaint is that it does not include an electronic break. Few circular saws seem to include this feature. The saw side of the shoe plate is straight and parallel to the blade however the front edge of the other side of the plate is clipped off which might interfere with using a straight edge guide on the motor side of the saw. I am also a little disappointed that the rip fence accessory is not included. the saw does come in a well protecting injection molded case. Thanks Ray. Now to find myself a WorkSharp. I have received a message from the company indicating several Canadian dealers that should have the WS3000 available late in August. I have yet to source a Jet slow speed wet sharpening system in Canada. I need something to grind the chips out of the blades of my garden wood chipper and it seems to come down to the Jet as probably the best value though I may just have to settle for the Delta, I think the Tormek is just a little too expensive for the few applications I have.
