You are correct of course and that is not my point. I have nothing against such 
a device, it just gets on my ti*ts that, for example Energizer batteries have a 
strip on their packaging which tells the optically enabled the state of the 
batteries sold within, essentially for free.

  Hi Dale,

  Multimeters are great for those who understand volts, amps, etc. Most
  people I know don't have a clue about these things and would benefit greatly
  from a battery tester that requires knowing that three means good, two means
  still has some life and one means time to think about replacing the battery.
  My wife is just such a person.

  The talking multimeter is half the price and measures precisely the voltage
  (and/or amperage) and a hole lot more for about 40 bucks. Of course it
  wasn't intended for the blind or adapted for adaptive requirements.
