The way these work it sounds like they are nothing more than magnets. They
are probably selling them for 10 times the price you would pay at a science
store such as Edmond's scientific.

Subject: [BlindHandyMan] Blind Mark: The Five Easy Steps

> Here is a Tool for finding electrical boxes after installing drywall
> The Problem
> Cutting out access holes in drywall costs do-it-yourselfers time and
> money!
> One wrong measurement can ruin an entire piece of drywall (not to mention
> all the time spent putting it up and taking it down!). DIYer's not skilled
> with
> the use of a rotary cutter can end up cutting too large of a hole.
>
> The Solution: The Blind Mark
> The Blind Mark drywall tool gives you the comfort of knowing the location
> of
> the box under the drywall before you start cutting. The electrical box can
> be found in a matter of seconds, replacing all of the time that is spent
> measuring in typical drywall installation. The Blind Mark allows consumers
> the
> ability to cut with a multitude of drywall tools, both hand and electric
> and
> eliminates the possibility of making a bad measurement!
>
> Using the Tape Measure
> 1) Measure X
> 2) Write down X measurement
> 3) Measure Y
> 4) Write down Y measurement
> 5) Put up drywall sheet
> 6) Measure and mark X
> 7) Measure and mark Y
> 8) Cut out access hole
>
> Using the Blind Mark
> 1) Insert Blind Mark Target
> 2) Put up drywall sheet
> 3) Locate Target with Blind Mark and remove target
>
> This allows you to do more in less time, and in this business ... Time is
> Money!.
> Step 1
> Place Blind Mark Target, with the arrow pointing up, in Electrical Box. If
> you have a multiple gang box, install the targets at each end of the box.
>
>
> small/Triple%201_small
> Step 2
> Rough Install Drywall. Once the Blind Mark Target is installed in the box,
> cover the box up with the drywall. Position your drywall in the exact
> location
> and fasten it top and bottom with drywall screws.
>
>
> Step 3
> With the arrow on the Blind Mark Locator facing up, pass the the Locator
> across the area in which the Blind Mark Target is Located. The Locator
> will
> find
> the Target and snap in place. Do not force the Locator into position. Hold
> the sides of the Locator and let it jump to the final position on its own.
> If
> the Locator does not look plum, rotate it right or left until it appears
> plum. Then, take your pencil and mark around the Locator, outlining the
> box
> perimeter.
>
>
> small/triple%202_small
> Step 4
> Remove the Blind Mark Locator from the drywall. Cut out the drywall using
> your mark as a guide. If you are using a handsaw, keep in mind that the
> cut
> on
> the side where the stud is must be a shallow cut. A variety of tools
> (manual
> or power) can be used to cut the drywall.
>
>
> small/triple%203_small
> Step 5
> Remove the drywall cutout and the Blind Mark Target. Finish screwing down
> the drywall and you are done.
