Hi Ralph,

You probably have seen them, a ball the top third or more poking up out of a
cup. They are often mounted on stands like those roller stands for supporting
long boards at the infeed and outfeed of jointers, saws and planers and such.
One advantage they have over rollers is that they permit movement in all
directions. Rollers however do tend to help direct movement.

At two bucks a piece I thought them a pretty good price. I'll probably hinge
some plywood with folding legs at the rear and side of my table saw with holes
to receive the cups which hold the balls. Because they are balls I will be able
to fold the table in ways which rollers wouldn't permit. Those rollers are
pretty expensive and even forming them with A B S pipe with cores and rod
through isn't all that cheap.

I just ordered 6 dozen one inch roller balls on sale at bosstoolsupply.com
to build into an outfeed table for my table saw. They are 6 for $11.97
Canadian, probably a little more American these days <GRIN>.

They offer a discount of 10% over something like 5 units.

Just in case someone else has need for something like that. I think that the
  sale ends tonight.
