I just came in from three hours of shoveling snow. I cleared most of the patio which is 16 by 45 feet and had snow to my knees over most of it. I threw it against the house which I usually do for the insulation value, there is as much snow there now as we had all last winter I am sure.
I cleared most of the snow down the sidewalk along side the house and the driveway but left enough to make it worth while for Janet to finish up tomorrow. Besides I was about played out. I spent much of the afternoon tuning up my dovetail jig. For some reason it is still not quite right, cutting the joints just a little too tight and I can't seem to get it quite right. I have 12 drawers to cut and I need them to be very precise and I am using oak for some and maple for the rest, can't afford to waste too much of that. throwing all that snow didn't seem to inspire any revelations either. Usually that sort of heavy work inspires some insight but not tonight. I had hoped to have that much done before work tomorrow. Oh well! I did partially disassemble my drum sander and figured out how to repair the adjustment mechanism which failed last week causing me to have to adjust it with a crescent wrench. When it works it works well but somehow it has been a bit temperamental ever since I got it, just a touch disappointing. It sure does produce a pile of very fine saw dust though. I have been very accurately thicknessing several 11 inch wide hardwood boards in pretty rough condition. In the summer I usually spread the dust out over the grass in the back lane just along the back of my fence and water it down to keep it there, it helps keep weed down but I won't get the gate open now with all that snow. Could lay it over the ice but then we will be tracking it into the house all winter.
