Gaads, you mean they actually designed a heater that closes contacts in a gasoline tank? in the air above the fluid gas? Sounds like a big bang waiting to happen to me.
Also the coil might not opeate same on A.C. as on D.C. Were it me I'd stick with the stic or light prove. Tom
