Well, in this context it applies to furniture used under canvas, military types during the American Civil War but it does date long before that. British explorers and of course Napoleon had quite extravagant furnishings which might brake down for moving. Apparently examples are found in ancient Egyptian culture.
The particular plans I am considering comprise a chest of three drawers, the chest is about 16 inches deep and 24 side and high. There is brass hardware, corners, inset handles for the drawers and at the ends for carrying. They use mahogany plywood, I would prefer solid wood casing. The other problem for me is that my dove tailing jig is only about 12 inches, I need a bigger one. They tend to be pretty expensive and sophisticated, don't know if a blind guy can work those big ones, any descriptions I have read speak of registration marks and such which probably would make it difficult.
