Anthony, nominal pipe size will measure one eight inch larger than the 
called size.  Example a half inch copper pipe will have an outside dimension of 
five eight inch,  a 3/4 inch pipe will measure 7/8 inch outside diameter, 1 
inch will measure an inch and an eight.
     Plastic pipe will measure true for the inside dimension being the nominal 
size it is called.  Threaded pipe goes by the inside also I think.
