Finely got the parts for my generator hook up today. Instead of a transfer switch I went to a inter-locking switch instead. All it is a manual switch that connects to one of the double pole breakers, not allowing u to turn on one breaker without turning off the other first. With this type of connection, you can fuse the sub-panel box as large or small as you like and fuse the generator as you like. I went to a 60 amp breakers for the main and sub-panel box to run the items from the house current in the sub-panel. And for the generator, I installed a 30 amp double pole. For the well pump is a 20 amp double pole and I installed 4 15 amp breaker for the other four circuits that I am planning on running. Now the four 15 amp circuits can run off the generator without any problem and all I have to do is switch on and off a breaker or to to run the well pump, when the need arises. RJ
P. S. The good thing is it meets code in this area and the cost is about 1/4 the cost of the transfer switch I was considering.
