Thanks for the idea, I will revisit before she could not find the power button it is a small flush button. Lenny, For emergency purposes, like where your mom could not turn down the TV, or even turn it off, make sure she knows where the off button, or even volume buttons, are on the TV itself. I am pretty sure that all TVs still come with on/off buttons on them. I often turn off the TV as I walk by it rather than locate the remote. Not a perminent fix, but good for emergency purposes.
