Dear Ray and list members: I live about a thirty minute drive from a mushroom growing operation, and the primary material used for growing a variety of mushrooms, is truck load after truck load of horse manure. When the manure is replaced, there are many folks in line to purchase the used manure, as it will turn poor soil in to productive soil. Gardeners and landscapers value the product for use in their work. After the manure has been utilized for the mushroom growing, it resembles the compost you described. In fact, the product can be bought in plastic bags, right along with large bags of mushrooms.
