Q: I have an old house that has lath and plaster walls. When taking off some
wallpaper, a lot of plaster came off. Can I repair this with a drywall
product?

A: If the remaining plaster on the lath is fairly solid, you can repair the
damaged area with new plaster. Pick up some Plaster of Paris at a hardware
store and mix it up according to the package instructions. Trowel the
plaster into the damaged area. Do this in a couple of applications so the
weight of the plaster doesn't pull it off the wall before it dries. Once the
repair has completely dried, you'll need to sand and apply an oil-based
primer, assuming you plan to paint the wall.
