There is so much interesting thoughts about heating water. Recently on DIY
with Ed the plumber he installed a water saving device on the domestic hot
water. It was a very small copper line that went to the bathroom and kitchen
sink. There is a special fitting that went on the hot water line near the
faucet that allowed for the third water line to connect. Then at the water
heater he placed another fitting where the pressure relief valve is and then
put the valve into this fitting. A very slow pump was hooked up to the tank and
to the lines going to the sinks. When the system was activated hot water was
always at the sink preventing running water to have the hot available. This had
a major water saving benefit.
About ever 2 or 3 months when I remember I drain the sediment from the bottom
of the water heater to improve the efficiency of my gas water heater. I guess
that the tankless units do not have that problem.I have been thinking about
putting the system that Ed the plumber installed to the kitchen sink. The
bathroom is out of the question. I would have to rip up a tile floor and cement
board to get the 3rd line up to the sink. That ain't gonna happen.
