first to fly a heavier-than-air machine!  No Siree they weren't!  Richard 
pierce:  (Bamboo Dick): of Timaru New Zealand beat them by several months, or 
so word of mouth history tells!
Unfortunately, Dick was a right old weirdo and never thought to inform the 
local newspaper of his attempt, so there is no * official record of the event!
