Well David, >From Gilford it should not be too difficult to get to Gatwick, there are trains from Victoria Station in London through Clapham Junction East Croidon and Red Hill and the other way from Brighton which run right into the airport. If you book soon you can probably get a direct return flight into Houston for around 400 quid, probably a little less.
Janet and I nearly did a sort of round tour from Toronto to Houston then on to London and back through Ottawa for around 500 pounds each but in the end we cut the London branch out for various reasons. The hotel rate is pretty good, it does not include Texas tax which is something like 15%. The food in the hotel is fairly expensive as tends to be the case in airport hotels but it is pretty good and by the time the gathering was over we found we had eaten our way through most of the menu. There was a pretty good Texas Barbecue we went to last time, Mo's, the food was cheap but the cab wasn't. Split among four or six though it would have been reasonable and the food was excellent.
