Drywall is usually half an inch thick though it can be a little thicker and occasionally it is doubled either to hide earlier degraded surface or old plaster & lath or sometimes for additional fire barrier.
Don't use nails though to attach a cabinet to the wall. They may well come out. Use screws and probably nothing under two and a half long #8, quite possibly bigger if the cabinet is of any size and to hold significant weight. ----- Original Message ----- From: Robert Riddle To: [email protected] Sent: Monday, May 19, 2008 5:36 PM Subject: [BlindHandyMan] studs Of the wooden kind, sheesh. Lol. Seriously, I'm thinking of putting in a cabinet. How can one tell how far down the studs are beneath the drywall? I don't want to buy a box of nails and find out they're all too short.
